Why We’re Doubling Down on our Mission and Expanding our Technology and Product Leadership Team
The healthcare industry is at a critical inflection point as patient expectations continue to rise and recent market dynamics, including Amazon’s acquisition of One Medical, send a clear signal to the industry that the future of healthcare is hybrid. As a result, companies across healthcare are racing to deliver hybrid care experiences for their patients — meaning more opportunities for patients to access care when, where, and how they want. At Wheel, the opportunity to increase access to care is what drives and inspires our mission to put great care within everyone’s reach.
To drive our mission forward and help lead our industry through this inflection point, I’m excited to welcome Sameer Merchant as Chief Technology Officer and Steve Manning as Senior Vice President, Product.
Under Sameer and Steve’s leadership, we’re accelerating our long term strategy of building a full enterprise platform that delivers the future of care. By scaling the underlying infrastructure for the industry, we’ll enable the most innovative companies in healthcare to build virtual-first offerings across multiple care models. And together, we’ll improve the healthcare experience for millions of people across the country.
Over the past four years, we’ve built a strong business by pairing technology with the leading clinician network for virtual care. We’ve partnered with emerging and established enterprises to provide millions of patients with access to cohesive, connected experiences across virtual care, labs, and pharmacies. And we’ve provided clinicians with a new and better way to work in healthcare.
By doubling down on our mission, we’ll continue to partner with our clients to build comprehensive, virtual-first care offerings across care models — unlocking even more care opportunities for their patients and accelerating everyone’s ability to get quality care on-demand — at any time, from anywhere, and on their own terms. And as a clinician-focused company, I’m proud to share that 4 in 5 clinicians agree Wheel’s platform is designed with their experience in mind. We’ll continue to invest heavily in the clinician experience so they can focus on what matters most: providing great care to patients.
I could not think of two better leaders to drive this strategy forward than Sameer and Steve. They’ve spent the past twenty plus years working together to build and scale enterprise platforms at high-growth companies. And their philosophy on how to develop and deliver an exceptional platform experience will be critical in partnering with current and future clients to deliver even more types of care to their patients. In addition to accelerating the development of our platform, they’ll also be focused on scaling Wheel’s product and engineering organization.
As Sameer shared in a recent team meeting, “Our product direction must be aligned with our mission” — a sentiment that all of us at Wheel rally around. It’s the driving force behind our work at Wheel. And it’s what empowers our team to tackle some of healthcare’s biggest challenges heads on.
